Vietnam embassy Bangkok celebrates 71 years of independence

On September 2 Vietnam celebrated the 71st anniversary of its independence from France. Around the world Vietnamese citizens paid tribute to the country’s founding father, Ho Chi Minh, who led the country from the yolk of colonial oppression into an independent nation that has repelled the French, American, and Chinese military, and is now one of Asean’s strongest performing economies.

Along with the obligatory National Day parades and speeches, in Hanoi new “walking” streets were opened around Hoan Kiem Lake and alcohol laws relaxed. In Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) a street party and fireworks on Nguyen Hue Street marked the celebrations.

At Vietnam embassies and foreign missions globally the country’s diplomats and foreign ministry staff likewise celebrated their country’s independence, hosting celebratory gatherings of fellow diplomats, citizens, foreign business owners, and those who considered friends.

At Bangkok’s Okura Prestige Bangkok Hotel Vietnam Ambassador to Thailand, Nguyễn Tất Thành and partner, Mrs Nguyễn Tú Huyền, hosted a celebratory gathering attend by more than a dozen foreign ambassadors and diplomats, along with several hundred well-wishers.

As with last year’s National Day celebrations (See: Bangkok Celebrates Vietnam National Day in Style) the Vietnam Embassy Bangkok pulled out all of the stops to ensure the event was marked in style. AEC News Today presents a collection of images in celebration of Vietnam National Day 2016.
