As of 01:20 GMT March 27 there was 5,010 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 508 on the day prior.

Indonesia reported 20 deaths over the past 24-hours bringing the number of fatalities from COVID-19 there to 78, while the number active cases swelled by 103 to 780.

In the Philippines seven people died from COVID-19 over the past 24-hours bringing the number of deaths there to 45, while 71 new cases saw the number of active infections rise to 634. In Malaysia the number of deaths rose by three, to 23, with 235 fresh cases seeing the number of COVID-19 patients there rise to 1,793.

Three deaths in Thailand and 111 fresh cases yesterday saw the number of deaths there rise to four, while there is currently 953 active cases, four of which are classified as serious of critical.

Singapore yesterday recorded 52 new COVID-19 cases to bring the number of people with active infections there to 509, of which 17 are regarded as serious or critical.

Five fresh cases in Brunei saw the active caseload there rise to 109, one of who is regarded as serious or critical, while two new cases in Cambodia and Myanmar saw the number of cases there rise to 88 and five respectively.

Vietnam reported five new cases to bring the number of active infections there to 133, of which three are regarded as serious or critical.

There has now been 5,735 confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries, with 573 people, or about 10 per cent of all  infections, having been treated and discharged.

There has been 152 COVID-19 deaths in Asean member countries, representing a case mortality rate based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 21 per cent.

Global COVID-19 cases up to March 27

In the 24-hours to 01:20 GMT March 27 the number of new cases of COVID-19 globally rose 12.90 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 531,799, an increase of 60,764, another new daily record. It has taken less than two days to record the fifth 100,000 infection.

By comparison it took 67 days from the first COVID-19 case reported to reach 100,000 cases, 11 days for the second 100,000,  four days for the third 100,000, and less than three days for the fourth 100,000 infection.

The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours jumped 13.10 per cent DoD to 24,071, an increase of 2,789, the majority (718) in Spain. China reported 55 new infections and five deaths during the period.

Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally rose by 9,724, or 8.51 per cent over the day prior, to 123,942.

At the current rate there will be/ have been some 975,000 cases of COVD-19 by the end of March, and more than 44,000 deaths.

By Easter Sunday, April 12, there will be/ have been over four million infections and 195,000 deaths, if the current rate is maintained.

Global COVID-19 overview up to March 27

As of 01:20 GMT March 27 there was 383,786 active cases of COVID-19 globally, of which some five per cent, or 19,357 cases are classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate (CMR) is 16 per cent. On March 15 the CMR was eight per cent.
