As of 00:46 GMT June 22 there was 53,614 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 244, or 0.46 per cent, on the day prior. Of this 89, or 0.17 per cent, are regarded as serious or critical. An additional 1,497** people were discharged.
Indonesia continued to record the most number of deaths and new infections in a 24-hour period in Asean with 36 fatalities yesterday taking the number of deaths there to 2,465, while 862 new infections pushed the active caseload to 25,022. Following treatment 521 people were declared as recovered.
In the Philippines 19 fatalities yesterday saw COVID-19 deaths there rise to 1,169, while 652 fresh infections saw the active caseload jump to 20,990, of which 82 are regarded as serious or critical. Following treatment 243 people were declared as recovered.
There were no other COVID-19 deaths recorded throughout Asean yesterday.
In Singapore the number of active COVID-19 cases continued to ease on the back of 262 new infections and 718** discharges to 7,127**, with one patient said to be serious or critical.
Meanwhile, Malaysia yesterday saw its COVID-19 active caseload edge up to 295 on the back of 16 new cases and 10 discharges, with three people said to be in a serious or critical state.
Thailand yesterday recorded one new case in a returnee in quarantine to see the active number of cases there rise to 72, of which one is said to be serious or critical, while Cambodia saw its active caseload ease to two after one person was discharged.
Myanmar yesterday recorded three new infections and four discharges to see the active caseload there ease to 84..
There were no changes reported in Brunei, Lao PDR, or Vietnam during the period, the former two being the only Asean member countries that are currently COVID-19 free.
Since the first Asean case of COVID-19 was identified in Thailand on January 12 there has been 130,686 confirmed cases recorded in Asean member countries with 73,224 people, or about 56.03 per cent of all Asean infections, having been treated and discharged.
In the past 24-hours the number of COVID-19 ‘survivors’ throughout Asean increased 2.09 per cent DoD, while deaths increased 1.45 per cent.
There has been 3,848 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Asean member countries, representing a case mortality rate (CMR) based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 4.99 per cent. Based on the total number of Asean infections the regional CMR is 2.94 per cent.
As of today, June 22, some 41.03 per cent of all confirmed COVID-19 infections throughout Asean remain active.
**On May 28, 2020 the Singapore government announced that it was adopting a “time-based discharge criteria” under which SARS-CoV-2 positive patients will be discharged 21-days after the onset of symptoms, without the need for them to pass two negative tests 24-hours apart, as had been the case in the past.
Discharged patients will be required to self isolate for another seven days prior to commencing work, but no additional tests were announced as going to be performed on them prior to their return to employment. The active case numbers for Singapore past May 29 should be regarded as a guide only.Â
Global COVID-19 cases up to June 22
In the 24-hours to 00:46 GMT June 22 the number of new COVID-19 cases globally reportedly increased by 1.46 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 9,038,807*, an increase of 130,252* people. It took seven days for the latest one million infections to be recorded.
The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours increased by 0.72 per cent DoD to 469,604*, an increase of 3,338*.
China yesterday reported 26 new infections and three recoveries to see the active caseload there jump to 331, while the total number of infections edged up to 83,378, with 78,413 recoveries and 4,634 official deaths.
Mexico deaths top 1,000 in late filing
According to figures at 00:46 GMT June 22, Brazil continued to lead the daily tally for COVID-19 deaths yesterday with 601, driving the total there to 50,659.
However, in filings made after the June 21 close-off Mexico reported 1,044 deaths for June 22, although June 22 had not commenced there at the time of filing. Up to the time of writing Mexico has reported a total 21,825 COVID-19-related deaths and 180,545 infections, with 5,343 new cases noted in the late filing.
The USA yesterday reported the most number of infections globally with 26,077 new cases driving the active caseload up to 1,254,056, with 2,356,655 people having been infected to date. There has been 122,247 COVID-19-related deaths in the US, with 267 people dying yesterday.
Brazil recorded the second most number of new infections globally at 16,851, marginally ahead of India at 15,183, with the active caseload in the former easing to 457,105 on the back of 36,040 recoveries, but swelling to 175,955 in the latter
The next most number of infections recorded in the previous 24-hours were in Russia, Chile, Pakistan, South Africa, Peru, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia, who reported between 3,019 and 7,728 new cases each.
Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally yesterday rose by 96,185*, or 2.03 per cent, over the day prior to 4,834,136.
At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 10.2 million SARS-CoV-2 infections by June 30, with some 500,000 deaths.
In the past seven days COVID-19 related illnesses have been blamed for the deaths of 33,268 people.

As of 00:46 GMT June 22 there was 3,735,067 active cases of COVID-19 globally, an increase of 0.71 per cent on the day prior, of which some 1.47 per cent, or 54,737 people, are classified as in a serious or critical condition.
Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current CMR is 8.85 per cent. On March 15 the CMR for completed cases was 8.0 per cent. As a percentage of total infections the CMR today is 5.20 per cent.
As of June 22, some 41.32 per cent of all diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infections remain active, while 53.48 per cent of all diagnosed cases have recovered.
