As of 00:31 GMT June 2 there was 45,686 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 205, or 0.45  per cent, on the day prior. Of this 92, or 0.20 per cent, are classified as serious or critical. An additional 1,233** people were discharged.

Indonesia yesterday continued to recorded the most number of deaths throughout the region with 28 fatalities taking the number of deaths there to 1,641, while 467 new infections pushed the active caseload to 17,662. Following treatment 329 people were discharged.

In the Philippines three fatalities yesterday pushed COVID-19 deaths there to 960, while 552 fresh infections saw the active caseload jump to 13,699, of which 73 are considered serious or critical. Following treatment 70 people went home.

Singapore yesterday recorded its 24th COVID-19 related death, while 408 new infections and 767 discharges saw the number of active cases** fall for the 18th consecutive day to 12,802, of which seven are regarded as serious or critical.

There were no other COVID-19 related deaths recorded in any other Asean member country during the period.

Meanwhile, in Malaysia, the combination of 38 fresh cases and 51 discharges yesterday saw the active caseload thee drop to 1,338, of which eight are said to be serious or critical.

In Thailand yesterday one new case and two recoveries saw active cases drop to 60, one of whom is said to be in a serious or critical condition, while 14 discharges in Vietnam saw the number of active cases there fall to 35.

Lao PDR marks 50 days without new SARS-CoV-2 infection

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Myanmar yesterday rose to 84 on the back of four fresh cases while, there was no reported changes in Brunei, Cambodia, or Lao PDR, with the latter racking up its 50th day without a new COVID-19 infection.

Since the first Asean case of COVID-19 was identified in Thailand on January 12 there has been 92,650 confirmed cases recorded in Asean member countries with 44,159 people, or about 47.66 per cent, of all infections having been treated and discharged.

In the past 24-hours the number of COVID-19 ‘survivors’ throughout Asean increased 2.87 per cent DoD, while deaths increased 1.15 per cent.

There has been 2,805 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Asean member countries, representing a case mortality rate (CMR) based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 5.97 per cent. Based on the total number of infections the CMR is 3.03 per cent.

As of today, June 2, some 49.31 per cent of all confirmed COVID-19 infections throughout Asean remain active.

**On May 28 the Singapore government announced that it was adopting a “time-based discharge criteria” under which SARS-CoV-2 positive patients would be discharged 21-days after the onset of symptoms, without the need for them to pass two negative tests 24-hours apart as had been the case in the past.

Discharged patients will be required to self isolate for another seven days prior to commencing work, but no additional tests were announced as going to be performed on them prior to their return to employment. The active case numbers for Singapore past May 29 should be regarded as a guide only. 

 

Global COVID-19 cases up to June 2

In the 24-hours to 00:01 GMT June 2, the number of new COVID-19 cases globally rose 1.64 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 6,361,612, an increase of 102,362.

The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours increased by 0.92 per cent DoD to 377,150, an increase of 3,453, the majority in Brazil.

China yesterday reported 16 new infections and three recoveries to see the active number of cases there bumped up to 76. There has been 83,017 SARS-CoV-2 infections in China with 78,307 people having recovered and 4,634 official deaths.

The USA yesterday reported 22,004* new infections, 73,802 recoveries, and 728* deaths to push total fatalities to 106,923 and active cases to 1,136,903. More than 16,900 people in the US are rated as serious or critical.

There has been 1,859,174 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections recorded in the USA, with only 33.10 per cent of all diagnosed US cases being discharged.

Most deaths in Brazil

Brazil yesterday reported 14,169* new cases, slightly down on the day prior, and 732* deaths to see active cases swell to 287,892, of which 8,318 people are said to be serious or critical.

Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally yesterday rose by 114,407, or 4.11 per cent, over the day prior to 2,900,081.

At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 7.9 million SARS-CoV-2 infections by the middle of June, with some 420,000 deaths.

In the past seven days COVID-19 related illnesses have been blamed for the deaths of 29,337 people.

Global COVID-19 overview up to June 2

As of 00:31 GMT June 2 there was 3,084,381 active cases of COVID-19 globally, a decrease of 0.50 per cent on the day prior, of which some 1.73 per cent, or 53,407 people, are classified as in a serious or critical condition. This is the first daily drop in active cases since the coronavirus outbreak began and comes as the number new infections continues to grow.

Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current CMR is 11.51  per cent. On March 15 the CMR for completed cases was 8.0 per cent. As a percentage of total infections the CMR today is 5.93 per cent.

As of June 2, some 48.48 per cent of all diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infections remain active, while 45.59 per cent of all diagnosed cases have recovered.
