As of 01:19 GMT April 15 there was 15,003 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 545, or 3.70 per cent, on the day prior. Of this 162, or 1.08 per cent, are classified as serious or critical. An additional 481 people were discharged and sent home after successful treatment.

Indonesia yesterday recorded the regions highest number of daily deaths in a 24-hour period with 60 people succumbing to the SARS-CoV-2 virus to bring deaths there to 459. Active cases rose to 3,954 with the discovery of 282 new cases. Forty-six people were discharged and sent home.

The Philippines reported 20 deaths bringing fatalities there to 335. Active COVID-19 cases jumped to 4,593 with the addition of 291 new cases, while 53 people were discharged and sent home.

Five deaths in Malaysia pushed the number of fatalities there to 82, while 170 new cases and 202 discharges saw the active caseload fall to 2,427, with 60 patients said to be in a serious or critical condition.

In Thailand yesterday fatalities rose to 41 following one death, while 117 discharges saw the caseload decrease to 1,167, despite the discovery of 34 new cases. Sixty-one people remain classified as serious or critical in Thailand.

One death in Singapore and 334 new cases yesterday saw active COVID-19 infections there rise to 2,631, of which 29 are regarded as serious or critical, while 25 people were sent home following treatment.

Myanmar reported one new case to bring active COVID-19 cases there to 57, while active infections in Vietnam decreased to 97 despite one new case being found, after 23 people were discharged. Eight patients in Vietnam remain in a serious or critical condition

In Cambodia 14 people were discahrged yesterday to see the active caseload there drop to 31, one of which is said to be in a serious or critical condition, while one discharge in Lao PDR yesterday saw the caseload there drop to 18. There was no change to the situation in Brunei over the period.

Since the first Asean case was identified in Thailand on January 12 there has been 21,520 confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries with 5,585 people, or about 25.95 per cent of all infections, having been treated and discharged.

In the past 24-hours the number of COVID-19 ‘survivors’ throughout Asean increased 9.42 per cent, while deaths increased 10.30 per cent.

There has been 932 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Asean member countries, representing a case mortality rate based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 14.30 per cent. As of today, April 15, some 69.72 per cent of all confirmed COVID-19 infections in Asean remain active.

Global COVID-19 cases up to April 15

In the 24-hours to 01:19 GMT April 15, the number of new COVID-19 cases globally rose 3.85 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 1,997,923 an increase of 73,986. This is the lowest daily percentage increase since March 8.

The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours increased by 5.84 per cent DoD to 126,600 an increase of 6,982, the majority, 2,407, in the USA. This is a new daily record for COVID-19 deaths in a 24-hour period in any single country.

China reported 89 new infections for the period and no deaths. Officially, there has been 3,341 deaths in China and 82,249 cases of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally rose by 35,553, or 7.54 per cent, over the day prior to 478,558.

At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 3.6 million SARS-CoV-2 infections by the end of April, with some 313,000 deaths.

As of 01:19 GMT April 15 there was 1,392,765 active cases of COVID-19 globally, of which some 3.70 per cent, or 51,609 cases, are classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate (CMR) is 20.92 per cent. On March 15 the CMR was eight per cent. As a percentage of total infections the CMR today is 6.34 per cent.
