COVID-19 in Asean: update for April 1 -- 980 new cases, 32 deaths across Asean

As of 01:29 GMT April 1 there was 7,772 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 740, or 10.52 per cent, on the day prior.

Indonesia recorded 14 deaths and 114 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths there to 136 and active cases to 1,311

Ten deaths and 538 new cases in the Philippines yesterday saw COVID-19 fatalities there rise to 88 and active cases to 1,947, one of whom is classified as serious or critical.

In Malaysia yesterday 140 new cases and six deaths brought the number of active cases there to 2,186, of who 94 are classified as serious or critical, and 43 deaths.

Thailand recorded one COVID-19 death and 127 new cases over the past 24-hours to see the tally there rise to 10 deaths and 1,299 active cases, 23 of which are classified as serious or critical.

In Singapore yesterday 47 new cases saw the number of active COVID-19 infections there rise to 683, of which 22 are regarded as serious or critical.

In Vietnam eight fresh infections saw the active caseload there rise to 154, of which three are classified as serious or critical, while two new cases in Cambodia and Brunei saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there rise to 86 and 83 respectively. One person in Cambodia and three in Brunei are classified as serious or critical.

Over the past 24-hours Myanmar reported its first COVID-19 death, along with one new infection to bring the number of active cases there to 14, while Laos PDR reported one new case to bring its active caseload to nine.

Since the first Asean case was identified in Thailand on January 12 there has been 9,429 confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries with 1,375 people, or about 14.58 per cent of all infections, having been treated and discharged.

There has been 282 COVID-19 deaths in Asean member countries representing a case mortality rate based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 17.02 per cent.

Global COVID-19 cases up to April 1

In the 24-hours to 01:29 GMT April 1 the number of new cases of COVID-19 globally rose 9.35 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 858,217, an increase of 73,389.

The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours rose 11.56 per cent DoD to 42,140, an increase of 4,367, the majority (837) in Italy. China reported no new infections or deaths during the period. Officially, there has been 3,305 deaths in China and 81,518 cases of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally rose by 11,754, or 7.11 per cent over the day prior to 177,141.

At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 2.5 million infections and 156,000 deaths by Easter Sunday, April 12.

As of 01:29 GMT April 1 there was 638,846 active cases of COVID-19 globally, of which some five per cent, or 32,310 cases are classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate (CMR) is 19 per cent. On March 15 the CMR was eight per cent.
