COVID-19 in Asean: Thai Airways axes flights to 7 international destinations

Thai Airways International (THAI) is the latest regional carrier to feel the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak in Asean, today (March 9) announcing the cancellation of flights to seven international destinations. The cuts are the second introduced by the airline in response to the COVID-19 outbreak

Most heavily affected by the cancellations are flights between Thailand and India, with 90 flights to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and New Delhi being chopped until the end of the month.

Also being cancelled are Thai Airways flights to and from Malaysia, Denmark, Sweden, Indonesia, and Oman

COVID-19 to cost AP airports $3bln in Q1

The cuts come as the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific forecast airport passenger traffic in the Asia-Pacific region to drop by 24 per cent in the first quarter of the year, slashing about $3 billion from airport revenue.

Last week the International Air Transport Association (IATA) called for rules requiring airlines to fill at least 80 per cent of their slots or risk losing them to be suspended immediately.
