Computer graphics experts to gather in Bangkok for SIGGRAPH Asia 2017 (video)

More than 7,000 people from some 60 countries are expected to gather in Bangkok later this month when some of the the world’s leading developers, academics, and creative minds in the fields of computer graphics and interactive techniques get together for the 10th SIGGRAPH Asia conference and exhibition.

To be held between November 27-30 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), SIGGRAPH Asia 2017 is the region’s largest annual conference and exhibition devoted to computer graphics and interactive techniques.

Themed The Celebration of Life and Technology, SIGGRAPH Asia 2017 promises to provide a glimpse of innovative future technologies that could soon see uses in the commercial and consumer space, with the latest research from more than 40 national universities to be presented.

Among the speakers for the two day conference portion will be some of the world’s most respected technical and creative people from companies such as Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS), Pixar Animation Studios, Framestore, Marvel Studios, Framestore, Method Studios, and  Industrial Light & Magic.

Topics to be discussed include the creative and technical challenges in bringing Disney’s Moana characters to ‘life’; the visual artistry and tools that contributed to Blade Runner 2049‘s distinct look; the Making of Pixar’s Coco; and the Making of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Among the various symposia will be those that look at emerging technologies, those that highlight and examine major breakthroughs, techniques, and arts in the field of computer graphics and interactive techniques, while a computer animation festival will feature the most creative works of the year from students’ through to professional productions.

At the invitation only Panel & Production Talks some of the world’s most elite and talented computer graphics experts and creative geniuses will explain their processes and techniques for creating compelling content, while a VR showcase will explore emerging trends and applications in the field of immersive technologies, such virtual and augmented reality.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2017 will feature keynote speeches by Albert Yu-Min Lin, an internationally renowned scientist, innovator, technologist, entrepreneur, and an award winning National Geographic Explorer, and Michael Cohen, director of the Computational Photography Group at Facebook and an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington.

Of the 47 organisations participating in the exhibition will be 23 first-time exhibitors, including Epic Games, SOFA Framework, Luxion Inc, NewOlderVFX Co., Ltd., Ringling College of Art and Design, Unity Technologies, and Yannix (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

Also representing the host country at SIGGRAPH Asia 2017 will be the Business Visualization Research Group of Chulalongkorn Business School, and the Digital Innovation Design and Technology Center (DIDTC) of Thammasat University.
