When it comes to Malaysians online reading habits websites focusing on food, beauty, and travel dominate the list; the list of the Top 50 Blogs from Malaysia for 2017 by Asean Up, a ‘digital platform forming part of the EYE3 GROUP.
Of the 14 different categories of Malaysia websites comprising the Top 50 Blogs of Malaysia for 2017, 36 or 72 per cent, relate to food, beauty, and travel. The remaining 14 top 50 blogs from Malaysia for 2017 fall into a mixed range of categories comprising automotive, design, entertainment, fashion, finance, fitness, lifestyle, money, news, parenting, and technology.
Based on the total number of page visitors per month though and it is obvious that Malaysians are even more interested in automobiles and technology than they are in food.
With what Asean Up claims to amount to some 5.7 million monthly visitors and a social media community of 741,000, Malaysia’s top online website is paultan.org, published by Malaysian digital content and marketing services agency, Driven Communications.
Focusing on automotive news, reviews, and handy information such as motor vehicle prices, paultan.org dominates not only the Malaysian online space, but also stands pretty well globally, ranking at about 4,000 in the world according to the Alexa website ranking system.
According to the Asean Up’s figures, paultan.org attracts almost 53 per cent more web traffic each month than the preceding nine most popular Malaysian blogs
Number two in the Asean Up Top 50 Blogs from Malaysia for 2017 list is Gecko & Fly. Published by full time blogger Ngan Tengyuen who writes about ‘architecture and computer related stuff’.
According to Asean Up’s metrics some 1.6 million people visit the website each month, while its social media community numbers about 4,800. According to Alexa, Gecko & Fly currently ranks at about 33,700 globally.
With Malaysians love of food and eating, and the topic being so well represented in the Top 50 Blogs from Malaysia 2017 list, and it would be surprising for one to stand above the rest. That distinction goes to proudduck.com which serves up a mix of food and lifestyle topics written by 29-year-old blogger Vivy Yusof. Attracting some 98,300 monthly visitors and with a social media network of some 1.150 million, proudduck.com is ranked at about 330,000 globally by Alexa.
According to Asean Up the Top 50 Blogs from Malaysia 2017 list was compiled using ‘well-established tools for digital marketing to compile a shortlist of 100 blogs with recent updates from 200+ of the most prominent Malaysian blogs written in English, Malay, and Chinese. Each website’s social media following from major networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, etc., were then factored in. The figures were then combined, given weightings, and then sorted from the most to the least influential websites in Malaysia.
According to Asean Up the purpose of compiling the Top 50 blogs from Malaysia list was to ‘gather the most prominent blogs of the Malaysian online community and help everyone find and learn from digital thought-leaders and trendsetters of the region.
