As of 01:35 GMT March 23 there was 3,061 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 467 on the day prior.

Ten deaths in Indonesia yesterday saw the the total number of COVID-19 fatalities there leap to 48, the most of any Asean member country, with 64 new cases pushing the total of active infections there to 437.

Malaysia remains home to the most number of active COVID-19 cases in Asean, with 123 new infections seeing the number of active cases rise to 1,157, 26 of who are reported to be in a serious or critical condition. Two people died, bringing the total to 10.

In the Philippines six deaths and 73 new cases there saw the the totals rise to 25 and 340 respectively.

Singapore recorded its first two deaths from COVID-19 yesterday, its first, with 23 new cases bringing the active caseload to 309.

Thailand saw the most number of new COVID-19 infections over the past 24-hours with 188 fresh cases pushing the number of active cases there to 554, seven of which are considered serious or critical.

In Cambodia 31 new COVID-19 cases there saw the number of active infections rise to 82.

In Vietnam 19 new COVID-19 cases saw the total there increase to 96, two of which are classified as critical or serious, while Brunei added another five cases to bring its total to 86, two of whom are regarded as serious or critical.

Laos PDR and Myanmar have still not reported a single COVID-19 case.

There has now been 3,539 confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries, with 392 people, or about 11 per cent of all  infections, having been treated and discharged.

Eighty-four people have died from COVID-19 in Asean member countries, representing a case mortality rate based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead) of 17.65 per cent.

In the 24-hours to 01:35 GMT March 23 the number of new cases of COVID-19 globally rose 10.43 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 336,838, an increase of 31,802, another nw daily record.

The number of deaths globally attributed to COVID-19 in the past 24-hours jumped 12.32 per cent DoD to 14,616, an increase of 1,603, the majority (651) in Italy. China reported no deaths or new cases during the period.

Meanwhile, the number of people treated and discharged globally rose by 1,839, or 1.92 per cent over the day prior to 97,636.

At the current rate there will be/ have been 820,000 cases of COVD-19 by the end of March, and more than 41,000 deaths.

As of 01:35 GMT March 23 there was 24,586 active cases of COVID-19 globally, of which some five per cent or 9,300 cases were classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate (CMR) is 13 per cent. One week prior, on March 15, the CMR was 8 per cent.
