One of the world’s longest established language schools is hoping to find fertile fields in Lao PDR with the signing of a master licensee agreement for the Pingu’s English-language teaching method.
Developed by UK-based Linguaphone Group following its purchase from Mattel in 2006 of the English language teaching rights for the Pingu’s television series, the Pingu’s English-language teaching method combines play-based educational techniques with creative activities and high-quality learning resources written by UK experts.
Introducing the novel English-language teaching method to Lao PDR is K&C Group, in conjunction with Panyathip – The British International School in Laos.
Ketsavanh Panyathip, director of Pingu’s English School Laos, said she believes there is nothing that compares to the Pingu’s English-language teaching method in Laos.
We aim to bring up Lao children with kind hearts, big dreams and creative wisdom and the Pingu’s programme achieves that while conforming to all of the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports in Lao PDR, she said.
Pingu’s English pre-school English language training programme combines the best practices of classical approaches with the newest research and trends in early years development, consistent with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYSF) for children aged between 3 and 8 years.
UK International Curriculum
The programme is designed to be a full-time, immersive childcare and education experience that develops early bilingualism in English, together with essential skills for success in education and life.
Subjects such as art, literacy, writing, storytelling, and role play, in addition to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), are taught in a full English environment using a UK International Curriculum.
Ms Panyathip said her K&C Group first became aware of the Pingu’s English-language teaching method through Hugh Evans, British Ambassador to Laos. With twenty five years local experience and twenty seven companies, Ms Panyathip said the privately-owned K&C Group plans to offer Pingu’s English international curricula country-wide.
“Excited” by K&C Group’s plans, Derek Price, chief executive officer with the Linguaphone Group said, “our new partner for Laos joins a growing presence in Asean delivering our popular pre-school kindergarten and English language training programme”.
Pingu’s expands in Myanmar
The Lao agreement follows closely on two new schools introducing Pingu’s English-language teaching method opening in Myanmar. Established there since 2017, Pingu’s English Myanmar announced a new school in the Dagon area of downtown Yangon and their first in Mandalay early this month.
According to Bryan Yen, CEO of Eduworld Co., and master licensee of Pingu’s English Myanmar, the opening of the two new schools is a direct result of the very positive feedback we have received from parents and, most importantly, the outcomes achieved by our students over the past two years”.
Pingu’s English teaching centers now operate in more than 20 countries globally, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
