00:43 | Bangkok Governor, Police General Asawin Kwanmuang, has confirmed that 13 spots on nine roads in the vicinity of Sanam Luang over which the royal funeral processions will travel are being repaired and are expected to be completed soon, while additional CCTV cameras are also being installed in the vicinity of the Grand Palace.

Meanwhile the donation of marigold plants for decorating important landmarks in honour of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej has been extended to October 15, while Thai embassies and consulates are gearing up to host sandalwood flower-laying ceremonies on cremation day.

02:39 | Deputy governor of Chiang Rai, Boonyawech Sripuangchai, yesterday officiated at the opening ceremony of the ‘Project 9101’ on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Economic Buddhism School Chiang Rai, which included an exhibition and a seminar on a campaign against burning in agricultural areas in 2017.

In Chanthaburi Province a seminar on the 9101 Project was also held outlining the policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) in developing sustainable agriculture to improve the quality of life of farmers.

14:55 | The Government Savings Bank (GSB) has announced that 50 per cent of eligible low-income earners have now collected their social welfare cards, while more cards will be issued before next month.

15:50 | The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has announced that 5,000 of some 8,000 stores selling affordable goods as part of the social welfare scheme have already set up electronic data capture (EDC) systems to enable purchases using the social welfare card, while another 17,000 stores who wish to join the scheme are currently being vetted.

17:08 | Pacharapot Nantramas, macroeconomics director for the Economic Intelligence Center (EIC) of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) has estimated that Thailand’s economy will grow by 3.6 per cent given the strong export growth rate of 8.9 per cent in the first eight months and a recovery of large economies such as the US, the EU, and Japan. For 2018 the EIC has forecast the Thai economy to grow by 3.5 per cent, while the baht will move between Bt33.50 – Bt34.50 to the US dollar.

18:56 | NBT World has hosted a visit by teachers and students from Benjamarachutit Nakhon Sri Thammarat School and guided them through the news production process. During the tour of the studios the students and teachers were able to sit in on a broadcast of the Thailand Today programme which focused on the importance of English language for Thai students.

20:53 | Officials from Thailand and Lao PDR have signed six agreements on a number of border issues during the 10th Thai-Lao Governors’ Meeting. Both countries discussed measures to maintain peace in border areas, strengthen cooperation, solutions to drug trafficking, and economic cooperation.

22:01 | Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak on Thursday met with US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, to discuss the bi-lateral relationship between the two countries in a range of areas, such as trade, investment, and technology. Thailand has declared its readiness to tighten cooperation with the United States, noting that the two governments had cooperated less over the last several years as Thailand worked on national reform.
