• 02:28 | Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has addressed a seminar attended by more than 2,000 local administrators and business owners at the Prince of Songhkla University in Southern Thailand on the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy and the opportunities it will bring to the region.

• 05:17 | Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs, Dr Wissanu Krea-ngam, has addressed a seminar on how the government will observe Article 77 of the 2017 Thailand Constitution that mandates public participation in the drafting of a new law dealing with public administration. Dr Krea-ngam suggested that each ministry should offer public summaries and messages via a mobile app at the least.

• 06:43 | The Department of Skill Development (DSD) has enlisted the assistance of 134 businesses and 18 universities to increase the number of skilled workers available to meet market demands. Thailand Minister of Labour, General Sirichai Distakul, said it was hoped the programme will see 100,000 additional skilled workers produced this year.

• 08:02 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MAC) has collaborated with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) to develop the ‘Agri-Map’ mobile application. The mobile app, developed in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0 strategy of developing ‘smart farmers’, provides farmers with a range of vital agriculture information aimed at increasing productivity and on-farm income.

• 11:03 | The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) is hosting the ‘Thailand Amazing Durian & Fruit Festival 2017 in front of CentralWorld Shopping Center in Bangkok until May 31 to increase the popularity of the strong-smelling fruit, along with other tropical fruits such as mangosteen, rambutan, langsat, langan, and lychee. More than 17 kinds of durian are on display.

• 12:06 | The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), anti-corruption organisations, and seven other partners have signed an agreement to raise the transparency of electric cable procurement projects.

• 14:45 | A forecast of heavy rain and strong winds with the potential to cause flash floods between May 24 and May 28 has seen the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) coordinate with regional authorities to prepare emergency measures.

• 15:45 | The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to maintain the benchmark interest rate at 1.5 per cent to maintain economic stability.

• 17:03 | Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee, Khanit Saengsuphan, said yesterday that he believes the use of Section 44 of the 2014 Interim Thailand Constitution – the so-called omnipotent clause – will help increase private sector investment in the project.

• 18:21 | Satun Province has marked World Turtle Day with activities promoting conservation of the endangered North River Terrapin, native to the southern Thailand region.
