00:43 | Large numbers of Thais continue to visit the royal crematorium exhibition at Sanam Luang in tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Meanwhile in related news the Ministry of Culture (MoC) will today begin distributing a second edition of commemorative postcards.

01:41 | Thais in various locations have joined community service projects aimed at beautifying their community. In Din Daeng, Bangkok,  the activities will continue until December 24.

03:12 | Deputy prime minister Dr Wissanu Kreau-ngam has dismissed claims the government was planning to alter the Political Party Law to allow political parties to resume activities, saying the idea was only floated in addition to an order from the National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO).

Meanwhile, the political reform committee headed by Anek Laothammatas has convened a forum to address the current concerns on  Election Commission (EC) neutrality.

05:29 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has postponed a review of the newly-elected Election Commission (EC) due to doubts over the legality of the nomination by the Supreme Court’s secret ballot process to elect two candidates to join the EC.

06:36 | Constitutional Drafting Commission (CDC) Meechai Ruchuphan said yesterday that a proposal from a former deputy prime minister to allow independent candidates to run in the general election is possible, but not easy to implement as public hearings would need to be held before any changes could be implemented.

08:08 | The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) is making plans for National Children’s Day on January 16 at which it will promote the ten responsibilities of good children with a popular song.

11:45 | The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) has expressed confidence that trade and investment negotiations with the European Union (EU) will make significant progress now that the European Council has decided to conditionally restore political contact with Thailand.

Meanwhile the private sector has expressed concerns over the continuing strong baht and has pressed the Bank of Thailand (BoT) to ensure an appropriate exchange rate to maintain a balance with Thailand’s trade competitors.

12:41 | The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has kicked off a nationwide skill development programme for community enterprises and low-income earners, to strengthen the grassroots economy and raise the quality of life for the impoverished. The ministry aims to train over 61,000 people nationwide.

13:36 | The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has joined with Rajaprasong area businesses to decorate the popular avenue for the holiday season. Lighting decorations include a 3D show on the theme “Beautiful Bangkok” to be featured in Magnolias Rajadamri Boulevard, which will be the first show of its kind in Thailand ever. The 3D performance will run until December 31 and takes place five times a day.

14:59 | The occupation of game caster has become a trendy career in the eyes of many people as the popularity of eSports increases. There is currently about 50 game casters in Thailand who earn between Bt20,000-Bt100,000 (about US$614-$3,073). Newsline takes a look at this new occupation.
