02:04 |  Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has denied that the current government plans to set up a new political party, saying that the matter is for the future, while suggesting that the reported plans by some members of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) and the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) to run in the next election won’t disrupt the national reform road map.

03:27 | Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has issued directives related to the planned police reform, which will see one committee established to overhaul the Royal Thai Police (RTP), and another committee formed to work on behalf of the government as called for in the new Thailand Constitution.

04:44 | The Thai Cabinet has approved the 2017 rice season insurance programme with an expected budget of Bt1.814 billion (about US$ 53.384 mil). The 2017 rice season insurance programme will provide insurance cover of Bt1,260 ($37) per rai (0.16 hectare/ 0.14 acres) for up to 30 million rai (4.8 mil hectare/ 11.861 mil acres) from losses caused by natural disaster, at increased rate of Bt630 ($18.54) per rai (0.16 hectare / 0.14 acres).

Insurance premiums for the 2017 rice season insurance programme have been reduced by -9.35 per cent to Bt97 ($2.85) per rai (0.16 hectare/ 0.14 acres), which the government will subsidise 62.89 per cent. The remainder will be paid for by the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC). Then bank’s customers will therefore pay nothing for the insurance cover.

06:12 | Deputy government spokesperson, Lieutenant-General Werachon Sukhondhapatipak, has reported that the Thai Cabinet has approved a draft decree granting revenue exemptions for registered ordinary partnership companies which use computer software for transactions and services. The aim is to encourage small and medium size Enterprises (SMEs) to use technology for information management and data sharing with the Government’s SME database, and to increase competitiveness.

The Cabinet has also approved the Triangle of Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability 2017-2020 project to support artisanal fisheries in Pattani Province by using mangrove forest areas for tourism.

07:24 | The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) has discussed reforms aimed at streamlining management of the tourism sector with the establishment of an agency to oversee the mobilisation of tourism reform policies, including reforming the industry’s system of registering foreign visitors.

08:22 | The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Mahidol University which will see the latter  introduce healthcare policies and strategies into its curriculum with the goal of production ten public health experts per year within the next five years.

11:13 | Deputy Secretary General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, General Navin Damrigan, has recorded an interview at NBT World for the Thailand Today programme on the topic of contract farming. To protect the rights of famrers General Damrigan said the government had passed the Contract Farming Act.

12:58 | Bangkok authorities have staged a mock bombing at the Thai-Japan Youth Stadium with multiple wounded and radiation contamination as part of a national crisis response project designed to bolster public confidence. Counter Terrorist Operations Center Chief of Staff, Major General Traithep Sriphanwong, said the drill included radiation response as many modern instances of attack have included radioactive elements.

14:26 | The Cooperatives Promotion Department (CPD) has organised a memorandum of understanding between Longan cooperatives network and the private sector aimed at managing oversupply of the fruit. The deal will see supermarket giants Siam Makro and Tesco Lotus buy more than 400 longan  trees from cooperatives, with the harvested fruit being distributed through their stores nation wide. Lampoon longan cooperatives have also set up a website guaranteeing two day delivery of ordered fruit through the Thai Post network, while fallen fruit will be used to produce beverages for export to China.

17:25 | Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong said the government is trying to boost the Thai economy by attracting foreign investors from the private sector through the new S-curve industries, which include those related to logistics, robotics, bio-fuels, and medical technology, as well as through the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
