00:38 | Thais continue to mourn the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. On Thursday 21,189 mourners paid homage to the dead king.

01:39 | The Chaipattana Foundation has hosted the tenth annual King of Thailand Vetiver Awards ceremony. The awards were presented to 11 projects that promoted the use of vetiver grass for soil and water conservation.

03:37 | Thailand Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has told attendees at a conference organised by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (Set) of the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and investors. At the same conference, Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Somkid Jatusripitak, assured investors that the government will get all of its infrastructure projects started within next year, regardless of the results of next year’s election.

05:10 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has resolved to pass the draft  law on the preparation of national strategies, and the draft law on national reform which compels future governments to follow the junta’s 20 year strategy.

06:31 | Thailand Science and Technology Minister, Atchaka Sibunruang, will appear on NBT World’s “Thailand Today” program to promote the upcoming STARTUP Thailand 2017. The event, which will take place in Bangkok between July 6th-9th, will feature activities and showcases to facilitate the growth of startups.

10:00 | A recent survey by Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) has found that the Thailand e-commerce sector is experiencing 13 per cent annual growth, largely as a result of young consumers’ willingness to spend. The survey found over 90 per cent of consumers below the age of 40 purchase goods online at least once or twice a month, with 80 per cent of consumers are willing to spend more for higher-quality goods and services or those tailored to their specific needs.

11:25 | The Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank) has started a loan programme aimed at increasing the liquidity of small and medium-sized exporters, allowing them to take advantage of growth in the Thailand export sector. The bank expects Thai exports to experience stronger growth in the second half of 2017. Borrowers will have access to a maximum of Bt2 million (about US$59,000) at an annual interest rate of 5 per cent for the first year. Up to Bt300 million ($8.842 mil) available for the programme.

12:52 | The Department of Tourism (DoT) has launched the Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2017 (TIFDF2017) which aims to promote Thailand as the world’s best film location. The festival this year has a theme of ‘Fascinating Destinations’ which focuses on Thailand’s eight tourism clusters.

In 2016 more than 700 foreign films were shot in Thailand injecting Bt2.3 billion ($67.786 mil) into the local economy. In the first five month of 2017 396 films and videos were shot in the kingdom generating Bt1.4 billion ($41.261 mil), an increase in both number and revenue over the same period in 2016.

16:12 | The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has hosted a reception for entrepreneurs from the US-Asean Business Council (USABC) after  they had visited Thailand Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister, General Prawit Wongsuwan. USABC president and ceo, Alexander Feldman, affirmed the importance of the Asean region to American businesses.

21:20 | The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) have held an international conference titled ‘South-South Knowledge Exchange on Youth Volunteering for the Sustainable Development Goals: Sharing the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and Other Approaches from Asean Countries’.
