00:48 | Thais nationwide have participated in merit-making ceremonies dedicated to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on what was his birthday. Recognised locally as Fathers’ Day, and National Day, December 5 is also recognised internationally as World Soil Day in honor of the late king’s commitment to sustainability, and water, and agricultural conservation.

02:42 | Thais across the nation continue to visit the royal crematorium and accompanying exhibition at Sanam Luang. More than 2.6 million people have so far visited the exhibition which is open until December 31.

03:26 |Newsline takes a look at preparations by the United Nation (UN) and its related agencies, as well as Thailand’s plans to celebrate World Soil Day 2017. This year the occasion, which was established by the UN in honor of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, is themed ‘Global Soil Partnership’ with the aim being to raise awareness of soil and environment.

07:27 | The Public Relations Department (PRD), along with the staff of other government agencies, has conducted clean-up and other social activities dedicate to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

08:56 | The Election Commission (EC) has said that political parties can still update membership data after the deadline passes. The new Law on Political Parties gives political parties until January 15 to have their membership data updated, however a provision allows for this to extend for three years.

10:17 | Army Commander-in-Chief, General Chalermchai Sittisarthas, has expressed concern over the recent discovery of hidden weapons and its implications for the country’s political situation. He said that the latest find is the same as those confiscated in 2014, which belonged to a radical political group, and he is worried they are planning future violent activities. With regard to the current ban on political activities, he said it was unlikely the ban would be lifted soon.

11:25 | The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is planning to host an event to mark National Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 under the theme ‘Thais won’t tolerate corruption’.

14:28 | Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has met with Athiwara Khongmalai, lead singer of rock band Bodyslam, who is part way through a 2,000 kilometer (1,243 mile) cross-country run to raise Bt700 million (about US$21 million) to purchase medical equipment for 11 hospitals nationwide. As of Monday he has collected more than Bt446 million (US$13.674 million), or almost 64 per cent of his target.

15:54 | The Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP) has held an event to mark the 28th Thai Environment Day, and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Volunteer Day 2017 to raise awareness among Thai people of environment conservation.

17:32 | Thailand’s Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) is to hold a seminar on December 7th in Sa Kaeo Province to educate SMEs on important procedures and regulations relating to cross-border trade between Thailand and Cambodia.

Cross-Border trade between the Thailand and Cambodia is valued at over Bt120 billion (about $3.6 billion) per year, with Sa Kaeo Province responsible for an average of Bt60 billion (about $1.8 billion) per year.
