As of 01:30 GMT March 12 there was 340 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries.

The most number of confirmed active cases are in Malaysia where 20 new cases yesterday saw the number of people with active COVID-19 infections rise to 123, with two people reported to be in a serious or critical condition.

In the Philippines 16 new cases yesterday saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there jump to 45, one of who is regarded as serious or critical. One COVID-19 patient died in the Philippines yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths there to two.

In Singapore 12 new COVID-19 cases there brought the total of active cases to 82, 12 of who are classified as serious or critical.  Seven new cases in Indonesia saw the active number of cases there rise to 31, with the country yesterday recording its first COVID-19 death.

In Thailand six new COVID-19 cases there saw the total of active cases increase to 24, with one classified as serious or critical. In Brunei five new cases brought the total number of active cases there to 11.

Vietnam yesterday recorded four new cases, bringing the number of active cases there to 22, while Cambodia currently has two confirmed active cases. Laos PDR and Myanmar are yet to report a single COVID-19 case.

There has been 521 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries, with 177 people having been treated and discharged.

There has now been four deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Asean member countries.

Global COVID-19 cases up to March 12

The number of new COVID-19 cases globally rose 6.15 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 126,263, an increase of 7,315.

This is the largest single day increase in new cases since February 12 when a change in calculating methods used by China saw a massive spike in confirmed cases over a 24-hour period. The calculating method was changed again the following day.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased 7.84 per cent DoD to 4,633, an increase of 337, the majority (196) in Italy.

Meanwhile the number of people treated and discharged rose 2.57 per cent DoD to 1,710, bringing the number of COVID-19 survivors to 68,286.

As of 01:30 GMT March 12 there was 46,309 active cases globally, of which some 12 per cent or 5,771 cases were classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases, (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate equates to 6 per cent.
