Identifying those in the video at the top of this page as a group of university students from the island of Sumatra on a study tour of the building, authorities said 67 people were warded overnight in hospitals, with the remainder of those discharge after receiving treatment. Head injuries and broken bones were high up on the list of injuries being treated.
At the same time national police spokesperson Setyo Wasisto issued a statement confirming the collapse was not terror related.
The collapse occurred at about midday local time when Indonesian Stock Exchange workers were heading out to lunch and large numbers of people were walking across the structure.
Dozens of ambulances and emergency service vehicles and personnel battled to get through Jakarta’s notoriously congested traffic, with some of the injured being carried to hospital in the backs of private cars prior to emergency vehicles managing to get to the scene.
Jakarta’s Siloam Hospital reported receiving 28 injured people, while video shot and/ or obtained by Channel News Asia shows dozens of stunned and injured people sitting outside the Indonesian Stock Exchange building waiting for emergency services to arrive.
No cause for the collapse has been attributed as yet.
