00:36 | Thais from across the country continue to visit the Grand Palace to pay homage to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Funeral flower making continues across the nation with Chiang Mai Province making over 55,000, while Uthai Thani aims to produce a total of 300,000 flowers.

01:47 | Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has told the Natural Water Resources Committee (NWRC) to adjust its policy and water management budget in accordance with the current situation by focusing on tackling flooding and drought systematically. General Chan-o-cha said that there is a need to develop guidelines for solving flood problems in a sustainable manner. Areas which have been flooded repeatedly should be turned into ‘monkey cheek’ areas, he said.

03:13 | More heavy rain is forecast for the eastern and southwestern segments of the country between August 11 and 14, as nine provinces still continues to deal with flood waters. According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), torrential rain between July 5 and August 8 inundated 44 provinces, with flooding affecting over 327,000 households. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has advised all vessels to use with caution over the next four days with waves expected of between 1 – 2 meters (3.28-6.56ft).

09:58 | The governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), Verapong Chaiperm, has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for the 50 year lease of a 100 hectare (247 acre) plot of land owned by the Treasury Department in Sadao district of Songkhla Province with Treasury Department director-general, Patchara Anuntasilpa. A Bt1 billion (about US$30.102 million) industrial estate will be established on the land which is expected to attract more than Bt13 billion ($391.331 million) in investment and create some 3,000 local jobs and increase southern border trade.

11:14 | Minister of Commerce, Apiradi Tantraporn, said that there’s likely to be an oversupply of corn for animal feed  between September and November as a result of supply saturation in the market. The ministry intends to adopt the crop management model that Maha Sarakham Province has used to prevent an oversupply of cassava causing dramatic price drops for producers. In addition, Ms Tantraporn said that the price of longan has begun recovering due to increased domestic and international sales.

12:50 | Governor of the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAT), Titus Suksaard, said that a meeting of the International Tripartite Rubber Council (ITRC) – comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand – has concluded that the outlook for the rubber industry is positive and had agreed on a propossal to raise the price of rubber. He said that ITRC member nations supported Thailand’s initiative to scale back rubber farms in a bid to reduce production output by 360,000 tons per year.
